Our skin colour is determined by the amount of melanin we have in our skin. Sometimes abnormal concentrations of melanin can occur; this is the cause of birthmarks. While they are generally harmless, many sufferers decide to get treatment because they find their birthmark embarrassing, unattractive, hard to disguise, or feel that it negatively affects their self confidence.

How can it be treated?
The Vasculight technology system uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to deliver controlled bursts of energy to the affected areas. This light energy destroys the pigmented mark when it is absorbed into the skin, destroying some of the melanin. This dilutes the abnormal concentration of melanin, leaving the skin looking and feeling more balanced.
The Vasculight system is particularly effective when treating large birthmarks. The large spot size of the system allows us to successfully treat a larger area of skin and this is far more effective than inferior laser systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments depends on the extent of the pigmentation. At consultation the nurse will be able to discuss expected treatment time with you. Due to the high specification of our Vasculight system, we are able to keep the number of treatments to a minimum.
Will it hurt?
The Vasculight treatment won’t hurt, although some patients report a tingling sensation that is similar to the snap of an elastic band or a sting. The treatments are relatively straightforward so you will be able to get back to work or your daily routine immediately. Some patients may experience some redness or, in rare cases, bruising following treatment. Redness should subside within a few hours and can be alleviated using cooling packs or gel and can also be covered with make up. Bruising should disappear within several days.
When will I see the results?
An improvement in appearance should be apparent after the first treatment, and improvements will continue with subsequent treatments.
